Svante August Arrhenius was a Swedish scientist, originally a physicist, but often referred to as a chemist, nobel prize chemistry 2008 and one of the founders of the science of physical chemistry. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded once a year by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Otto Hahn was a German chemist who received the 1944 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering nuclear fission. Giulio Natta was an Italian chemist, who won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963 with Karl Ziegler for work on high polymers. Gustav Ludwig Hertz was a German experimental physicist, and a nephew of Heinrich Rudolf Hertz. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded once a year by the Swedish Karolinska Institute. George Charles de Hevesy was a Hungarian Radiochemist who was important in the development of the tracer method where radioactive tracers are used to study chemical processes, e.g., the metabolism of animals. The Norwegian Nobel Institute was established in 1904 in Kristiania, Norway. w, Poland to a Jewish family and was named in honor of the Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen. The Swedish Academy, founded in 1786 by King Gustav III, is one of the Royal Academies of Sweden. Sidney Altman is a molecular biologist, who is currently the Sterling Professor of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Chemistry at Yale University.
